TOKYO —
A 60-year-old woman was arrested on Thursday for allegedly threatening a primary school in Kunitachi City, Tokyo. According to police, Kazuko Okabe sent a threatening letter to the metropolitan police department (MPD) in which she said “I will kill every child at the school when the new semester starts.”
After police received the letter on Sept 1—the first day of school after the summer break—the school was temporarily closed as a safety precaution.
According to police, the letter had Okabe’s address, but had a male name on the envelope. Police said that Okabe told them she had been having trouble with the school after a child crashed into her with his bike in July. She was quoted by police as saying that she had visited the school to complain, but the school had done nothing.
